New Jersey Man Arrested in Fatal Hit-and-Run Crash

On Behalf of | Jun 18, 2012 | Wrongful Death

A man from Hainesport was arrested by the New Jersey State Police earlier this month, concluding the investigation into a fatal hit-and-run accident in Camden. The accident killed one and left three others injured.

The man surrendered to troopers on June 4, and was charged with leaving the scene of a fatal motor vehicle accident and hindering apprehension.

The rear-end accident happened in the northbound lanes of I-676. The victim who died was in the rear seat of a vehicle that had stopped for traffic.

An investigation into the accident shows that the man was driving at an unsafe speed and struck the rear of the stopped vehicle after changing lanes. The man made a brief stop after the collision, but fled the scene soon after.

New Jersey Hit-and-Run Accidents

Every day, people make bad decisions that adversely affect the lives of others. In this case, a life was lost – and countless others were irreparably altered – because someone made the choice to drive unsafely. Now, he will have to answer to the state and the survivors.

Families who have suffered the loss of a loved one at the hands of a negligent driver have the right to bring a wrongful death lawsuit against the offender. Although a lawsuit cannot bring the victim back, it can help grieving families achieve a measure of justice and make up for the financial losses caused by the death.

Thankfully, in this case the hit-and-run driver was ultimately apprehended by police. This doesn’t always happen. However, this doesn’t mean that accident victims are without rights. Hit-and-run accident victims are often able to bring a claim under their own insurance policies if the responsible driver cannot be located.
