Number of Fatal Accidents in Middlesex County, New Jersey, Top List for 2011

On Behalf of | Dec 29, 2011 | Car Accidents

Preliminary statistics from the New Jersey State Police report that 54 fatal motor vehicle accidents occurred in Middlesex County in 2011, more than any other county in New Jersey. Fifty-six people died as a result of the crashes, including drivers, passengers and pedestrians. There were no fatal bicycle accidents reported in Middlesex.

Essex County and Burlington County reported similar statistics, with 50 fatal car accidents occurring in both counties. While New Jersey car accident attorneys fight for car accident victims’ right to recover from those who cause serious injury in a crash, preventing these types of tragedies is even more important. Across the state, fatal car wrecks took the lives of over 600 people.

The statistics break down crash victims by age, type — driver, passenger, bicyclist or pedestrian — and county where the accident occurred. Almost 20 percent of drivers who were killed in a New Jersey car crash were between the ages of 50 and 64. Passengers involved in fatal accidents were not concentrated in any specific age group; 15 people age 16 and under and 21 to 24 years-old were killed in a New Jersey car crash. Passengers between 18 to 20 and 30 to 39 accounted for 14 deaths each.

On a positive note, the number of cyclists involved in fatal bicycle accidents throughout New Jersey was significantly lower than those involved in car or pedestrian accidents. Less than 3 percent of fatal accidents in 2011 involved cyclists.

Causes of the car crashes were not mentioned in the statistics compiled by the New Jersey State Police.
