Brain injury victim competing in New York City Triathlon

Brain injuries, regardless of their cause, can have significant present and future consequences for victims. Bruising, swelling and tearing of the brain can lead to permanent impairment or injuries that require long-term hospitalization and therapy. This can create a large financial toll on victims and their families and they should seek any compensation available to them to help cover the associated costs.

A man competing in the New York City Triathlon is a survivor of a brain injury. A few years ago, he was involved in a bicycle accident that has caused long-term difficulties in moving his left leg. He feels that his injury has allowed him to run longer and communicate better with others. He is currently training with an athlete working for an organization that pairs disabled athletes with other athletes.

Traumatic brain injuries can result from accidents, sporting activities and falls. If such an injury is the result of the negligence or reckless conduct of another, it is important for victims to pursue a claim to compensate them for their damages. The level of compensation is based on many factors, one of the most important being the results of a medical evaluation to determine the victim's level of impairment currently and in the future. Such evaluation also weighs on the victim's ability to work, live independently and have their condition treated through therapy, among other factors.

The brain injury victim in this case still suffers from mobility issues involving his left leg. Although it is unclear what caused his bicycle accident, if it was the result of the negligence of another he may have been entitled to compensation for his continued impairment. He is currently participating in triathlons regardless of his impairment and appears to be able to live independently and do the things he wants.
