On Behalf of | Jan 6, 2011 | Car Accidents

In the early morning hours on January 6, 2011, a car crashed into a power pole and then into Gregory’s Restaurant and Bar in Somers Point, New Jersey.

According to news reports from the scene, the car was allegedly driving at high speeds just prior to the accident. Kevin Botta, a passenger, was killed on impact. The driver, Antonio Vargas, was flown to a medical facility. Vargas is listed in critical condition.

A pedestrian, Joseph Higbee, was also injured when he was struck by a fire hydrant hit by Vargas’s vehicle during the crash. Higbee is also being treated for severe injuries, as reported by NBC Philadelphia.

Additionally, nearby businesses and residences were without power for hours after the accident.

Legal Claims that May Arise From Serious Accidents

Various legal claims may arise from such an accident, including wrongful death, given that Vargas may have been driving at such high speeds and seems to have lost control of his vehicle, causing Botta’s death. There may also be claims for property damage incurred by the bar and other local businesses.

Those injured as a result of negligence have a right to compensation for their injuries suffered. Every lawsuit is dependent on the facts, so it is important to speak with an experienced personal injury lawyer who can answer your questions, evaluate your case and help you pursue the best legal option for you and your family.
